"Once you do it once, you have it for life."
Patrick Blackwell is one of the junior circuit's fastest-growing stars.
I wrote a profile of Patrick Blackwell, one of the U.S. fastest-growing stars, for Figure Skaters Online. We chatted about his comeback from injury, his goals for this season, and of course, his backflip - which he told Paul Wylie, “Once you do it once, you have it for life,” at September’s An Evening with Champions.
You can read the profile at Figure Skaters Online. Please give them all the love - they are out there doing “yeoman’s work” (a phrase my former boss at Boston University liked to say) covering skating at every level. Plus, the site is run by a fellow Rochesterian, which is a totally awesome bonus.
In other news, I am working on a Very Important Feature about a much-beloved skater for the Boston Globe. It has taken a month of interviews and is currently at 938 words….and I am not even close to done. Yikes! I can’t wait to share it, because I think it will change the way a lot of people think of this skater. Stay tuned.
I’ll also have a story in mid-November about Scott Hamilton for the Globe, looking back at the 40 years since his Olympic gold medal as he is inducted into The Tradition at the TD Garden in late November.
I’ll share links and outtakes on both here once they run. And when I have some time, I’ve got material to share here separate from both stories. Thanks for your support!
